CLIFFNOTES-
  • Excitable theatre kid elf, thinks caves are the best houses and that the sky looks pretty sus.
  • Uses 'plays Lord of Verminion a whole lot' both as a combat class and to put on performances.
  • Has a medical condition that requires her to periodically shed large amounts of aether to avoid attracting voidsent or causing other problems. Does this by enchanting stuffed animals.
  • If played as a minor scion, acts as a living aether battery for more combat-focussed mages after being saved from her own nonsense by the WoL.
  • If played as a normal citizen of Eorzea, she's a travelling performer with severe hangups about the term 'warrior of light'.
  • Younger sister to a forgotten 1.0 Warrior of Light. It's a Problem.

Name: Cendrillon "Braids" Lansquenet

Age: Somewhere in her 20s, probably closer to the later end by now. I'd be more specific but SE can't figure out their timelines.

Appearance: Braids holds herself like a chocobo following a carrot, all excitement and joy and apprehension for something, led around life by the nose by something that you can't see. She never stops moving and so her face is never quite entirely grey, always a little more rosy with cheer and occasionally sunburn then her colourless skin would normally allow. Her dark hair is usually safely wrestled back into the braids that she ended up nicknamed for. Her eyes are uncomfortable to look at, unnaturally white with ceruleum bleaching, but her freckles and contagious grin are always there to bring your attention away from the implications of a youth spent in difficult physical labor and remind you that she is perfectly content and also enthusiastic to see what is over there. Her clothes are either utilitarian or basically lingerie/impractical Actual Costumes with very little in between.

Personality: Amiable, cheery and more than a little selfish and childish, Braids is someone it's difficult to have no response to. You might like her, you'll probably think she's the most irritating person you've ever met, but you'll almost certainly feel something. And that's what matters, right?

Flung from a life of isolation into the big wide world where everything is too bright and too loud and too constantly-under-threat-of-destruction by the Calamity, she's in an almost constant state of overstimulation and has decided that the best solution is to inflict it upon everyone else, too. Starting with you.

She's kind, helpful, imaginative. She's not always clever but she's always a problem solver. Never, ever lost for words. She's loyal. Persistant. Good, probably, when push comes to shove. There's something worthwhile in there, if you're willing to look for it, and she does her best to make herself useful to have around when she remembers that people like it when other people are useful. It's just that she's also really dreadfully annoying.

Abilities: Being born in a ceruleum mine and growing up crawling through the machines to repair and work them, Braids has been absorbing the aetheric residue of ceruleum gasses all her life. The problem is that this has left her aether highly astrally charged, just as volatile as ceruleum itself. And just as liable to explode, metaphorically or otherwise. Theoretically, she could manage enough conjury to safe a life in an emergency. In practice it'd take a mage of no small skill to deal with the side effects doing this would leave her unfortunate target with, and the sudden burst of aether is liable to attract enough voidsent to cause more problems than she would ever solve.

Her go-to solution, both for battle and for living life safely, is to sew and animate dolls. By channeling her explosive bursts of aether into something that hasn't been saturated in ceruleum, she can channel it into something less dangerous. And much cuter than a swarm of voidsent and people with eyes where they shouldn't have eyes.

(See: Lord Of Verminion, but it's a combat class.)

History: Braids was born in a small community of duskwight ceruleum tappers in Northern Thanalan, and has worked as one since she was very young and desperate to be of use to a struggling community and small enough to fit into passages built for lalafell. She doesn't recall much of it, but she knows that, growing up, someone found it desperately important that she should learn to read and would constantly send her illustrated storybooks to help her practice. As she grew, she no longer could wriggle her way through the lalafell-sized maintenance tubes but had gained enough understanding of the working of the mining equipment to make herself useful until Dalamud's fall.

Dalamud's fall was, naturally, a traumatic experience. A massive shard of the moon collapsed the ceruleum mine where her community worked and her memory of the time is so broken as to be useless. She is not the only survivor - she has, in fact, met her mother and father in the years since. Academically, they know what they are to each other, but their fragmented memories make time spent together emotionally fraught. At her lowest moment, lost in a world that was too loud and bright and unfamiliar, she was taken in by a theatre troupe known as Lansquenet. Her carefully-maintained love of picture books and plays returned to her before even her given name and it served her well as she tried to rebuild her identity.

As an Ally of the Scions, her occasional bursts of destructive aether and unfortunate tendency to attract voidsent made her a problem that they were forced to deal with. Fortunately for all involved, she was the kind of problem that could be addressed nonviolently with a little education.  She would have been recruited proper during the efforts to increase the ranks while everyone was napping, serving as a living aether battery for the mages in their employ. Post-5.4, her need to constantly drain herself of aether safely makes her a prime candidate for supplying energy for porxie-creation.

As a Citizen of Eorzea, she remains with her troupe, even as it is occasionally dwindled to a troupe of 1, travelling the world as a writer and performer of decidedly low-brow plays and puppet shows. It doesn't pay tremendously well. She is very, very much a doer of odd jobs and ready to accept any offer of free food.

Other: Her older half-sister was a 1.0 Warrior of Light who left the mines in the hopes of earning enough money as an adventurer to make a safer life for her family in their mother's native Gridania. However the fall of Dalamud and the resulting mind-wipe of all the people of Eorzea meant that everything she knew of her sister was lost in the Calamity. Unfortunately, this included a great deal of her own identity, tied up as it was in her sister's.

As a result, she's very sensitive to the fact that people are calling this new person running around the Warrior of Light, because to her that title represents the people who vanished and never returned. It's the only name she has for someone so important to her that her whole life must have been entangled in theirs. As an Ally of the Scions, she's presumably started to work her way through it. As a Citizen of Eorzea, it's one of the few things she'll be actively cruel and antagonistic over.
